Copenhagen Map — Attractions, Neighbourhoods & Day Trips

Copenhagen is compact: almost everything a visitor wants sits inside a 2 km circle around the harbour. Nyhavn to Tivoli is a 20-minute walk, the metro covers the rest 24/7, and the airport is 15 minutes from the centre. Use the map below to orient yourself, then jump into the guide for each place.

The eight places nearly every first-time visitor asks about. Each link opens the full guide — what it costs, how long it takes and whether it’s worth your time.

Neighbourhoods worth your time

The centre is where the sights are; the neighbourhoods are where Copenhagen actually lives. Vesterbro and Nørrebro sit one metro stop from the City Hall square, Christianshavn is a canal-side walk across the harbour bridge.

Getting in & getting around

The metro runs 24/7, the harbour buses are covered by the same ticket, and the airport–centre run takes 15 minutes. Cars are pointless in the centre — the city is built for feet and bikes.

Day trips from Copenhagen

Three castles and a Viking museum sit within an hour of the city: Kronborg (Hamlet’s Elsinore) up the coast, Frederiksborg on its lake in Hillerød, and Roskilde’s cathedral and ship museum to the west. All are reachable by train — or combined in one guided day.

Frequently asked questions

Is Copenhagen walkable?

Very. The historic centre fits inside a 2 km circle: Nyhavn to Tivoli is about 20 minutes on foot and most sights sit along one natural walking loop. For longer hops the metro runs around the clock. How to get around.

Where is Copenhagen located?

On the east coast of the Danish island of Zealand, facing Sweden across the Öresund strait — Malmö is 40 minutes away over the bridge. The airport (CPH) sits between the city and the strait.

How far is the airport from the city centre?

8 km — the metro (M2) does it in about 15 minutes, running all night. Airport to city, step by step.
